Earthed: Creative Residency

Inviting in creativity in connection to land, in a community of change makers, as a means to explore my presence on planet Earth.

What’s this?

From June till December 2023 I’m participating in a ‘creative residency’ through Earthed, in Somerset UK.

Earthed is a “community of change-makers nurturing a 'learning ground' - to create the spaces and support the practices for the transition to a regenerative future.” have birthed this residency, which they described as “a nature inspired, embodied learning opportunity for facilitators, coaches, educators and change makers”.

Why this?

Creativity has been ruminating around my mind for several years and I’m outrageously excited to finally have a physical space + an inspiring peer community cultivating nature’s inspiration to channel what’s within me.

The notion of/ process/ concept of creativity has been completely devoid from the spaces I’ve been working in i.e. government policy and interactions with society. For me the creative process really speaks to the change needed in/through our institutions of power:

  1. Authenticity - real creativity can only come from you/an individual. Big organisations have been built on a industrial mindset that see’s ‘workers’ as part of a big machine working to produce a pre-defined ‘product’ at the end. This way of working is good for making ‘things’ like a computer or a piece of clothing - this is a complicated process (see Cynefin framework). Unfortunately, the super wicked we’re facing are not well addressed by a process for complicatedness - hence why we are where we are and governments so far have proven useless in tackling climate change for example. Challenges/super wicked problems like climate change are complex and require a different approach that welcomes in the individuality and diversity of us all.

  2. Vulnerability -

  3. Different - creativity is all about showing something different, we are in a state of inertia and unawares of what is possible. imagination

What’s to come?

I’ve rewritten the below about four times, as there is so much to share….
